Victory Over Addiction

ADDICTION is a chain around the leg of an individual that controls his or her every move. It will hurt whoever it needs to in order to fulfill its desires within the person being controlled. The first step to being free from addiction is …….Salvation is a free gift by God’s grace to be accepted by faith in what Jesus had done on the cross on your behalf. Your spirit has been brought from death unto life, in what we call regeneration. The reviving of a dead spirit, a rebirth, or the resuscitating back to life that which was born dead.

Salvation does not solve all of life’s problems.  Why, because your soul is messed up because of sin and habitual sinful thinking. Our soul is the center of our mind, will and emotions. That is why the Apostle Paul put such a high value on the knowledge of Jesus Christ, because it realigned his soul with his spirit where the Holy Spirit resides. Just knowing the truth sets you free from the lies of sin. Salvation starts with the confessing of our sins unto God by faith in Jesus Christ.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” ‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

To Confess is different than repentance, to confess is to declare or acknowledge that what God says about sin is true. What God says is sin we must confess or to declare or acknowledge that we are in agreement with him that it is sin. If we confess our sins to him He in turn will forgive us and cleanse us. Repentance on the other hand is a change of direction which can happen at any time after our salvation takes place. Repentance is required as truth is revealed to us.

When your life is so messed up, when your addictions isolate you from all the good from all the love and you keep saying to yourself, SOMETHING HAS GOT TO CHANGE!!! What you need is a change of mind! A change of direction from the path of destruction that you are walking on. That is the meaning of the word repentance. The power of repentance is that through Jesus Christ the chain of sins addicting habitual grip upon you can and will be broken. When a person gets down to the very bottom kind of desperate then God will always come to your rescue in a gentle peaceful plead to change your direction. The first choice foremost is yours to make. Choices all begin with thinking about it and then putting that thought into action. Repentance is a desperate person meaning business but be prepared to wipe the sweat off your brow. Before God will step in you have to make a step towards him.

My addiction was pornography. This will work with any addiction that you may have. When I got sick of what I was doing and sick of how it effected others I took action. I repented which simply means I had a change of mind. I had to say no to my addiction. I had to put into action my 180 degree turn around by faith in Christ for deliverance, but death selfish desires is never easy, it is extremely difficult but worth every drop of sweat. It took me 4 to 5 sweaty days of saying no to my addiction before God stepped in and forever broke the chain that sin had a hold of me. Praise The Lord he set me free. He WILL set you free as well.
