Salvation: Fruit of The Spirit

Returning To Intimacy With Christ Web Page

Scripture: Galatians 5: 1-25

I.   Fallen From Grace:

  • It is easy if we are not careful to fall from grace.
  • Especially newborn babes in Christ.
  • Anytime we indulge in the flesh we sever the grace of God from our lives.
  • Here, in this passage Paul is talking to brethren.
  • To the churches of Galatia.
  • Galatians 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
  • Verse 4 seeking to be justified by law: you have fallen from grace.
  • Verse 7 you were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth?
  • Verse 10 People will come along beside us to disturb our walk with the lord.
  • Someone perverted the truth for he tells them in verse 13 for you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
  • Galatians 3: 1-3 You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? 2 This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
  • Galatians 1: 6- 7 I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; 7 which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.
  • According to Galatians 6: 13 For those who are circumcised do not even keep the Law themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised so that they may boast in your flesh.
  • SO somebody told them that they needed to be circumcised in order to be right with God.
  • So like the Galatians it is possible to have set backs in our walk.
  • To even be called foolish and deserting him.
  • For the devil will use anyone who is not walking in the Spirit to hinder your walk.
  • Evidently the Galatians falling back into trying to merit God’s favor through the flesh and also falling back into the sinful habits.

II.   Deeds of The Flesh:

  • Well, since we are eternally secure, we think we can indulge in our flesh.
  • Indulging in the flesh does the opposite of what we are seeking when we do them.
  • We think this is what will satisfy, but only God’s way will ever satisfy.
  • The deeds of the flesh in and of themselves create chaos for that is sins purpose.
  • Galatians 5: 19- 21 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these
  • The Deeds of the flesh is plural meaning they all work separately independent one from the other.
  • It is a list of things the flesh will do will bring chaos, a robber of joy and peace, a divider of spouses and separation of families, hatred, bitterness, wars.
  • The deeds of the flesh hinder the Holy Spirit in working in you for personal change and growth.
  • You cannot participate in the flesh and be fruitful in the Spirit at the same time.
  • For they are enmity towards one another.
  • One counteracts the other.
  • Nor can you just turn them on and off like a light switch.
  • The deeds of the flesh are evident meaning they are clearly seen by everybody.
  • In verse 21 he says “such like” meaning Paul could go on and on.
  • The devils arsenal is a long list.

III.   Inheriting the Kingdom:

  • In verse 21 as I told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
  • So what is this referring to shall not inherit the kingdom of God?
  • This cannot be talking about salvation because entrance into heaven is by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
  • In Greek the word inherit means to acquire to receive.
  • So what this is telling us is that we will not inherit the benefits of God.
  • Acts 1: 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
  • You will receive power AND be my witnesses.
  • These are two different thoughts right here.
  • Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us.
  • This power is to live the life that God called us too.
  • What happens when we walk the walk and talk the talk we become greater witnesses for Him.
  • In the process we glorify God by following His word.
  • The grace of God empowers us.
  • In verse 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
  • So it is possible to live in the Spirit and not be walking in the Spirit.
  • To still be committing the deeds of the flesh while professing to be Born of the Spirit.

IV.   The Root of The Fruit:

  • Living in the Spirit but not walking in the Spirit is like having a car without gas.
  • You have the power under the hood to bring you from point A to point B but no power to get you there.
  • Colossians 1: 9-12 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.
  • Colossians 1: 29 For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me.
  • No grace no fruit.
  • By the deeds of the flesh pushing out the Holy Spirit defusing Him of power we would come short of the grace of God or cutoff from the kindness of God, or fallen from grace.
  • Galatians 5: 22 -24 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
  • The fruit of the Spirit is singular meaning all 9 fruit derive from the same source.
  • Also the fruit of the Spirit all work in harmony one with the other and simultaneously at the same time.
  • You can always see from a distance whether a tree has fruit or not.
  • It is always visible.
  • People are looking for fruit.
  • Why? Because people are hungry for it.
  • Atheists and humans beings who breathe all want Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.
  • These are what this world is seeking for, longing for.
  • It says taste to see if the lord is good.
  • They will taste and see if the Lord is good if your fruit is ripe.
  • Jesus our example produce the fruit of the Spirit that was given to him without measure and it attracted people everywhere he went.
  • Our fruit is always for someone else to eat?
  • They only way they can taste to see if the Lord is good is because of you and me, and through personal experience.
  • Fruit in the Greek means to produce, to give advantage
  • Advantage meaning it’s the giving of someone else the opportunity to gain something.
  • Its being in a condition or circumstance that will put you in a favorable or superior position for others to benefit from.
  • The absence of the flesh brings the fruit of the Spirit into the light that others will see.
  • The absence of the fruit of the Spirit brings the flesh to the light that others will see.
  • Deeds of the flesh are evident.
  • The branch relies on the root to produce the fruit.
  • The Christian relies on the power of God in order to produce fruit.
  • Romans 11:17 -18 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you.
  • John 15: 1- 5 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. 3 “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
  • The root of Jesus Christ supports us.
  • Without us abiding in Jesus we cannot and will not produce fruit.
  • Galatians 5:24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
  • We need to be crucifying the flesh with all its passions and desires.
  • Die to the flesh, walk in the Spirit.
  • 1 Co. 15: 31 -34 I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. 32 If from human motives I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, LET US EAT AND DRINK, FOR TOMORROW WE DIE. 33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” 34 Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.
  • We need to be serious about living in the Spirit.
  • Luke 9: 23 – 25 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. 24 “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. 25 “For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?
  • Create a wooden cross for your personal use and on this cross you will take a piece of paper. Write on it your weakness and/or sin and nail it to your wooden cross.
  • Signifying to your self that, that particular sin or weakness has been crucified to the cross. (Galatians 5:24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.)
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you through scripture for victory over that sin or weakness in your life. Repeat daily if needed.

Salvation: Add to your Faith

Returning To Intimacy With Christ Web Page

Script. 2 Peter 1:1-9

I.   Applying all Diligence add to your faith:

  • Our faith needs to be supplied in order to grow.
  • What is the point of wanting a changed life and not going all the way.
  • Applying all diligence, in your faith supply.
  • The devil want to destroy us, weaken us, make complacent.
  • Luke 8:13 those on rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away.
  • Diligence is to have zeal to be eager, to do quickly to add to your faith.

II.   In your Faith supply Moral excellence:

  • 2 Peter 3: 17- 18 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
  • The Holy Spirit is in seed form and must be supplied too in order to grow
  • 1 Peter 2: 1-3 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, 2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, 3 if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
  • New born babes were told to put away all wickedness, all treachery, all pretense (acting), all jealousy, all evil speech or slander.
  • So as newborn babes there are things that we are going to have to get rid of.
  • It is being conscientiously aware of how your life’s decisions affect other people.
  • It is being conscientiously aware that everyone you meet has an eternal destination.
  • 2 Co 3: 17-18 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
  • Our life’s ambitions are to give all glory to God.
  • 1 Co 10:31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
  • When you are aware that in all you do, you must bring glory to God then you are bringing moral excellence to your faith.
  • When you are fully aware of other people and take careful steps to walk in the word by faith and in the Spirit of God you are adding moral excellence into your faith.

III.   Add to your Faith Knowledge

  • Faith needs knowledge in order for it to grow.
  • Peter stresses that in order for faith to grow you need to add more knowledge.
  • 2 Peter 1:2 -3 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
  • He has given unto us according to His divine power everything pertaining to life and godliness.
  • To stress the importance of this knowledge he says it again in verse 4 for by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
  • The author wrote 3 times in one chapter how important the knowledge of Jesus Christ truly is to our lives.
  • Tony Evans said, “You cannot grow beyond what you know.”
  • Otherwise the Bible wouldn’t be stressing it so much.
  • Look at Paul in Phil 3: 8 I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ,
  • The knowledge of God is worth everything that this world has to offer.
  • Our foundation can only be made from the materials that we supply the Holy Spirit with.
  • The Holy Spirit can only use what He has available.
  • The point is the nature of God is planted in seed form in our hearts.
  • All the potential of God’s DNA has been deposited inside of those who believe in Him.
  • Cory Betts.
  • However that powerful DNA of God either grows to be fruitful or lies dormant unable to change the life or produce fruit to change anyone else’s life.
  • Look closely at the scripture verse 4 so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature.
  • It says, “may become” which signifies it is your choice to be a partaker of the divine nature.
  • John Dominic Crossan, in his masterful book Jesus A Revolutionary Biography states that “the mustard plant is dangerous even when domesticated in the garden, and is deadly when growing wild in the grain fields. And those nesting birds, which may strike us as charming, represented to ancient farmers a permanent danger to the seed and to the grain. The point, in other words, is not just that the mustard plant starts as a proverbially small seed and grows into a shrub of three, four, or five feet in height. It is that it tends to take over where it is not wanted, that it tends to get out of control, and that it tends to attract birds within cultivated areas, where they are not particularly desired. And that, said Jesus, is what the Kingdom of God was like. Like a pungent shrub with dangerous take-over properties (Jesus A Revolutionary Biography, page 65).
  • The DNA inside of us is contagious not only in changing our lives forever but any life that we may encounter one believer who in zeal hungered for grow and maturity, full of the Holy Spirit.
  • The devil knows the take over properties of a mustard seed Christian who gave all diligence adding to his or her faith and produced fruit, addicting fruit for anyone who wants to really live life to the fullest.
  • With some Christians the seed lies dormant for many years never growing.
  • These complacent Christians tie the Holy Spirit’s hands to prevent Him from taking them to the next level of abundance.

IV.   Add to your Faith Self-Control:

  • Self-control simply means to control oneself, hold fast to be strong, to refrain oneself from giving in
  • Genesis 43:30 – 31 Joseph hurried out for he was deeply stirred over his brother, and he sought a place to weep; and he entered his chamber and wept there. 31 Then he washed his face and came out; and he controlled himself and said, “Serve the meal.”
  • Basically this means for us to not lose our focus on the eternal perspective.
  • The enemy wants to cause us to lose focus, to lose sight of what is important

V.   Add to your Faith Perseverance:

  • We learn the most through severe trials.
  • God comes ever so close to us during the worst trial that we have ever encountered.
  • Malachi 3:2 -3 “But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap. 3 “He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may present to the LORD offerings in righteousness.
  • Zachariah 13: 9 “And I will bring the third part through the fire, Refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, And I will answer them; I will say, ‘They are My people,’ And they will say, ‘The LORD is my God.’”
  • Daniel 3: 25 He said, “Look! I see four men loosed and walking about in the midst of the fire without harm, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!”
  • The next verse says come out ye servants of the Most High God.
  • Jesus is with us in the midst of our fiery trials.
  • So we must persevere, stay the course, don’t give up is what this is telling us.

VI.   Add to your faith Godliness:

  • The temptation in our perseverance is to quit to give up on God.
  • We must continue on to godliness, to doing the next right thing in obedience to God because it is worth the struggle.

VII.   Add to your faith Brotherly Kindness:

  • Whatever is troubling you reach out to a brother or sister and minister to them.
  • If your depressed reach out to someone who needs it.
  • Have trouble with relationships help someone in need in that area.
  • To selflessly help someone or anyone.
  • Here is the reason why Luke 6: 38 “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”
  • Need love, give it. Need compassion give it. Need mercy give it. Need friendship give it.

VIII.   Add to your faith Love:

  • Love someone who is unlovable.
  • Romans 5:6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
  • Love someone who is helpless like you were when Christ loved you and died for you.

IX.   Embrace these Qualities:

  • 2 Peter 1: 8-9 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.
  • Render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • True knowledge is a working in faith knowledge that reaches to the heart of every person.
  • However, if you lack these qualities you are blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.
  • You forgot what Jesus Christ did for you.
  • You forgot that for the joy before him he endured the cross.
  • You forgot the beatings, the forty lashes, the crown of thorns, the spear in his side and the nails piercing his hands and feet.
  • He did it all for your healing and for your freedom.

Salvation: Partakers of The Divine Nature

Returning To Intimacy With Christ Web Page

Scripture: 2 Peter 1:1-4 For by these He has granted to us His great precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

I.  Partnering With God:

  • Partakers of the divine nature the word partakers in the Greek means to partner, to be at one with,
  • In John 17:21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, That they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.
  • Remember Jesus only spoke and did what His Father told him to speak and do.
  • They were one with another partners together.
  • In a marriage union you become one flesh, you partner with one another.
  • In marriage you fully know them, completely know them, the likes and dislikes of one another and you do that which pleases each other.
  • This is what it means to be a partaker of the divine nature, to partner with God to be at one with, to fully know him, to completely know him.
  • To only do what you see the father doing in scripture.
  • To be a working unit together.
  • To fully know our new partner inside of us is to learn of Him through His words.
  • So we can think like He thinks thereby doing what He has done and continues to do.

II.  Knowledge of God:

  • We cannot underestimate the power of taking in and understanding the knowledge about who God is.
  • God’s word is powerful sharper than any two edge sword.
  • Just the word of God alone brought into existence all that we see before us.
  • So believing in that very same word is just as powerful.
  • In verse 1 precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our savior Jesus Christ.
  • Verse 2 grace and peace will be multiplied through the knowledge of God.
  • Verse 3 His divine power has given to us everything that pertains to life and godliness and it says it again that it is through the knowledge of him.
  • In verse 4 He has granted to us His great precious and magnificent promises so that by them you MAY become partakers of the divine nature.
  • SO here is the truth right here the main point.
  • Faith in these great precious magnificent promises will positively insure that you will be a partaker of the divine nature.
  • At the point when you fully completely believe in the specific promise the Holy Spirit inside of you reacts to your faith and the word you believed in becomes a part of your thinking process thereby making you a marriage partner in the divine nature.
  • The essence of God inside of us is in seed form and needs knowledge in order grow into the divine nature of God.
  • Galatians 5:24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
  • If we are to walk in the Spirit the flesh must die.
  • Because you cannot do the one with the other.
  • One must die while the other thrives.
  • But it takes time, determination to go all the way with Christ.
  • Hence according to the previous verse Galatians 5:16 the more we walk in the Spirit the less we will carry out the desires of the flesh.
  • The one overrides the other over through the process of time and increased in the knowledge of God and our savior Jesus Christ.

III.  Be Willing to Surrender Our All:

  • Matthew 18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
  • We must humble ourselves as a child, be emptied of all previous knowledge in order to soak up the knowledge of God.
  • Psalms 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
  • Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
  • Meek in the Greek means to be gentle, to be humble.
  • So how important is it to become a child in the ways of the Spirit extremely important.
  • A child always hungers to learn more and more always asking why, why, why.
  • Except we become as little children we shall in no wise enter in.
  • Be willing to surrender our all to take in this knowledge that God has given to us
  • Hebrews 12:7- 11 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
  • Chastening in the Greek means to train or to discipline or give instruction in the way that is right.
  • There it is again, ”we might be partakers of His holiness.”
  • It yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them who are exercising daily faith in the word and by circumstantial situations that draw us to God.
  • Last week we learned The Greek word for Born is gennao meaning to become the parent of.
  • God chastens us as His children, why? it is the only way we learn His way is the best way.
  • In 1 Peter 3:1 in the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands.
  • Submissive is the Greek word hypotasso which means to obey, to make subordinate, to be subject too.
  • As the wives are submissive to our spiritual leadership as husbands we are to be submissive to our groom Jesus as being the bride of Christ.
  • The first step in our Born-again into the Spirit life we need to be humble in God’s sight, we must humble ourselves to His knowledge and authority.
  • The same word is used when Joseph and Mary found Jesus who was twelve years old being left behind was found at the temple, Luke 2: 51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them or in subjection to them, is the same Greek word being used hypotasso.
  • We know absolutely nothing about thinking, crawling, or walking in the Spirit unless the Holy Spirit teaches us through the word of the Lord.
  • We cannot learn if we are not submissive and do not have a teachable spirit.

IV.  The Raging Battle:

  • James 4: 4 – 6 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. 5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
  • Lusteth to envy, ESV uses the word yearns the Greek word is epippotheo which means long for; desire intensely
  • Picture a Mother or a Father who desires intensely for their children to listen to their sound advice to steer away from the pitfalls of life.
  • Why because they love them so fiercely that they want what is best for them.
  • Now picture the Holy Spirit inside of you intensely desiring, fiercely yearning for you to steer away from the pitfalls of life.
  • Learning the ways of the Holy Spirit, walking in the ways of the Holy Spirit you cannot do by performing outward manifestations of our human flesh.
  • Friendship of the world is the enemy of God.
  • Why do you think that is?
  • Because the world does all things by physical labor, individual striving relying on themselves to do all works required of them.
  • Knowing this, we cannot do any striving of the physical strength of our body nor mind to do the requirements of the spirit.
  • Why? Because we are not spirit!!!
  • Look at it another way.
  • In Galatians 5: 16-17 NASB But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.
  • So if we learn to walk by the Spirit you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.
  • But how do we do this?
  • You see, in sin what was formerly easy to do before Christ is now harder because after Christ there is opposition to that sin so that you may not do the things that you please.
  • The Spirit inside makes you uncomfortable when it comes to the same sins you did before.
  • Anything regarding the flesh (labor, strength, muscle, brute force) is set against the Spirit and the Spirit is against the flesh.
  • They are complete opposites.
  • One wants to do his own way and the other does it for you.
  • Flesh is self-service and the Holy Spirit is full-service.
  • Flesh you clean the carpet yourselves and the Holy Spirit company cleans the carpets for you.
  • Either you push the car to your destination or you allow the car to take you to your destination.
  • In John 4:12 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
  • Therefore we must submit, surrender to the Holy Spirit to do all things for us.
  • The answer for all our struggles is in God’s word and through the Spirit.
  • So three things we must do with every situation in order to walk in the Spirit.
    1. Identify God’s position on the Subject. Is it right or wrong?
    2. In your heart set your mind on obeying and responding like Jesus to that position.
    3. Then call on the Holy Spirit to empower your decision base on the biblical position.
  • You are walking by the Spirit by doing this.
  • Galatians 5:25 If we live (meaning your saved) in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
  • “If we live” in the Greek this word means to become alive again, born-again.
  • So by the wording in the scripture it is possible to be born-again in the Spirit but not be walking by the Spirit.
  • That is why walking in the Spirit has to be learned, first we crawl, then walk totter around holding onto things until we can walk in the Spirit without falling over.
  • It wont be easy it will be awkward at first. Just keep doing it.
  • By doing this every time with the sin easily besets you, you are including the triune Godhead to be involved with every problem.
